The Girl with the Red Camera
Hi! I'm Angelee, the owner and creator of AHFAR Photography. I am a graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, emphasis in photography. I have explored many different styles of photography, while also experimenting with film based and digital techniques. In the summer of 2014, I got the opportunity to travel to Scotland on a study abroad program with my fellow photography majors. That trip really opened my eyes to how amazing travel photography can be and how much I love it. Ever since then I have set my sights on becoming a travel photographer so I can teach others how much there is to see and learn in the world. I get intrigued by the idea of mixing my fine art background with my travel photography subject matter to create unique and original outcomes. Being open to new opportunities and setting my goals high, I look to the unknown future with excitement!
Artist Statement
I believe that photography can be one of the most powerful means of communication. Photographs have the ability to teach and show people something, provoke thought, and maybe even create emotion within the viewer. These are all reasons why I love photography. In my work, I strive to create images that prompt the audience to view scenes in a new way. Maybe they have never seen this place before, or maybe it is something they see every day but never take the time to really study or pay attention to its details. This not only applies to photographs of places, but also of people. Taking a non-traditional way of portraiture, I work to give the viewer a glimpse inside the subject by giving clues to what kind of person they are and what they have gone through. Instead of using props, I use techniques (such as double exposure and experimental cameras) to portray the person's life. In a culture where we are surrounded by a sea of images, I strive to make photographs that will stand out from the rest. If one of my images stays in a person's mind after they have turned away from it, then I have succeeded.
